# Can’t post in Announcements

For some reason, my account is not allowed to comment or create new topics in the Announcements category. The New Topic button is greyed out, and it says: “You are not allowed to create topics in this category”.

You have to have a certain trust level to be able to do that.

Not knowing about this rule, two weeks ago I asked a moderator to move [my post](https://discourse.nixos.org/t/nix-software-a-website-for-convenient-package-search/74114) to the Announcements category, and now I’ve lost the ability to reply to comments. Am I correct in understanding that I’ll now have to create a new topic without a category in order to continue the discussion?

In the short term, yes, but reaching that trust level isn’t very hard. You should get there within a post or two, it’s something like 10 mutual likes.
The rule is in place to prevent the reddit/hackernews brigading we’ve seen over the last two years; it typically affects that category.
