Hello, I’m fairly new to NixOS I’ve only been using it for about a year now and every time I try and get VR working it never works. my GPU is an Rx 6600 which should be adequate enough to run VR well on Linux especially wired VR so i doubt the issue stems from there, I’ve followed the wiki word for word and Monado just crashes, from there i have done some tinkering, looked into other wikis, spent many hours trying many different solutions but absolutely nothing seems to work. As of now I’ve just plain out removed anything VR related from my configuration because absolutely nothing I’ve tried has worked, I’m asking here to see if there’s anyone else who has used specifically the Oculus Rift S on NixOS. I know plenty of people i know have been able to get VR headsets like the Quest running simply with wivrn but because I’m using a wired headset, I don’t have the same ease of use others have and I’m curious if literally anyone ever has even gotten this headset running on NixOS at all, much less for playing steam games.
Have you got it working on any other Linux distro, for comparison?
i only use nixos, i feel like setting up other distros would be a lot of work since even if it did work i dont really want to use anything other that nixos so even if it did work on something else it really wouldn’t matter to me because this is my computer that i already have everything on. i know that the rift s has monado drivers so at least someone out there has put the effort into getting it working on linux so i doubt it being supported on linux is an issue
VR is a pain in the ass. I’ve gotten it working on a Quest 3 (I know, not your system) with Immersed on an AMD laptop, but I’ve had mixed luck (mostly bad) with ALVR and Steam Link on Nvidia on desktop.
When you say “never works”, what sort of never works? Are you using Steam Link or ALVR or anything else?
