I had such a blast at NixCon this year. It might just be the best one yet.
A huge thank you to the c-base crew for organizing an unforgettable event. The venue was perfect for talks and hacking, but what truly stood out was the incredible energy everyone brought. The diversity of people, the exchange of ideas, and the spirit of collaboration reminded me why I love NixOS—it felt like coming home.
Meeting so many people, one thing that really stood out was how much overlap we share in our visions and goals. Sure, there are some differences, but overall, we all want to build and improve the NixOS project. It’s such a stark contrast to how things can feel on the forum, where our strongest opinions often take center stage.
This event rekindled my heart and inspired me to express my gratitude. So, thank you, NixOS community, for being incredible. I’m excited about what’s ahead.
Here’s a heartfelt thank you to everyone making a difference. Off the top of my head:
The Nix Constitution Assembly team for their dedication to establishing the Steering Committee.
@vcunat, @hexa, @K900, and everyone who keeps the channels running smoothly.
@zowoq for diligently maintaining nix-community infra and keeping the ryantm-t bot alive.
Ron, Eelco and Kate for keeping the foundation running during the transition.
The c-base team for making NixCon 2024 a reality.
The mod team for their patience and hard work.
And the countless individuals focused on building and improving our community.
Let’s keep the NixCon spirit alive! Feel free to join me in sharing your appreciation for others or stories about people who have inspired you.
Of course, people from c-base were a great help and a lot of us are part of c-base in some way, and c-base definitely deserves appreciation for providing help.
However, the way I see it, the phrasing “the c-base team” could give a bit of a wrong impression of who our team is. The “team that made it a reality” wasn’t really a “c-base team”. It wasn’t a c-base organized event, and there wasn’t anything discussed/decided/initiated by any c-base structures (aside from the unofficial afterparty, which took place at c-base).
Multiple essential people came from outside c-base, and it just happened to be the case (not a suprise though) that a lot of us are affiliated with c-base in some manner, and we decided to have some of our meetings there. All of the team deserves appreciation, not just the c-base part of us.
If anything, the team was perhaps more of a “krebs team”
Thank you so much for showing appreciation, it means a lot to us!
Thank you for all your appreciation and kind words. I’m really happy to hear that you all had such a great time.
It was definitely more than just us that made NixCon special. In my opinion, it was all of you who brought such a fantastic vibe to the conference—whether through spontaneous hacking, the NixCTF, the great speakers, or simply by attending and sharing your smiles.
