Computer does not shut down or restart after upgrading from nixos-25.05

Recently I tried upgrading to nixos-unstable. Once it was done upgrading and I restarted, it worked fine until I tried to reboot/ shut down. Whenever i tried to, it would do the normal things up to when it stopped displaying to my monitor, and then it would do a cmos beep every 15 or so seconds and I would have to turn it off via the power button. From what i read( bear in mind I am no expert) it appeared to be a Dram refresh failure. After doing this a few times, i rolled back to 25.05, and it shut off properly. When I proceeded to upgrade to 25.11 to see if that worked, it did the same thing of restarting fine when I did the first reboot, and every proceeding reboot or shutdown it would do cmos beeps after it stopped displaying.

Any clue on how to fix this? I also dual boot windows and it works fine shutting down/ rebooting from there.

You can get the logs from a previous boot with journalctl --boot -1.

Try starting your system with 25.11, attempt shutting it down, wait a while (at least 3 minutes so systemd services have time to time out), then boot an older generation and get the logs so you can share them.

So, quick update. I managed to break my bootloader, and screw up my drive. When I started repairing it, I recognized my boot partition was ESP format, but was booted as legacy. After fixing my drive, I changed the boot mode to UEFI using the UEFI installation media, using nixos-enter and sudo nixos-rebuild switch –install-bootloader. I also changed the UEFI system from grub to systemd-boot. I did not do this with the intent of fixing the restart/ shutdown issue, but something along the line fixed it.
