Cracking passphrase/symmetrically encrypted .gpg file

Does anybody have experience with brute forcing file encrypted with passphrase gpg -c is the command I think. It would be great if I could somehow use my nvidia gpu if I got my setup working locally I can then rent cloud gpu to do that but I think its not going to be necessary the password I used is max 8 chars with dictionary words and maybe one number at the end so I believe that is still crackable. I have tried to look for solutions on the internet but the advice there is really bad people either don’t realize you can symmetrically encrypt files with gpg or they just say johntheripper without any further elaboration.
