External monitor over USB-C dock not working since 26.05 upgrade

I got an HP Elitebook 840 G10 plugged into an HP G5 essential dock over USB-C.

I’m on nixos 26.05 with Gnome and Wayland, also up to date.

My two monitors (HDMI and DP) were working fine before the 26.05 upgrade.
Everything else (network, usb devices) are working fine.

I tried rolling back the kernel version to 6.6 without success.
My BIOS and dock firmware are up to date.

I really don’t know where to search next, it seems in the logs that no display devices are recognize when plugging the dock.

Do you still have a boot entry that works? Then you could diff the two generations:

Also maybe USB-C DisplayPort alt-mode broken on 6.19.8-surface-3: typec/UCSI modules not autoloading · Issue #2195 · linux-surface/linux-surface · GitHub is related? the kernel module check is something I’d do

So the check is:

  ls /sys/class/typec/
  lsmod | grep -iE 'typec|ucsi'

and if that’s empty: (then replug)

  sudo modprobe typec typec_ucsi ucsi_acpi typec_displayport

The kernel module are loaded properly, i explicitely set them in my config :

But i don’t see any device using it, ls /sys/class/typec/ returns nothing.

I suspect a BIOS issue, i tried booting a live Mint ISO and i got the same issue.

The probleme was indeed not NixOS.

I tried what i saw on some reddit threads : pressing the power button for a minute.
After that the laptop seems to have reinitialized something, my monitors are working again.

I have no idea what caused it in the first place or what the “pressing the power button” fix actually did but it’s working again.
