How to set variables for flakes before output (let in)?

How to get it working?

You can’t.

The flake.nix looks like nix code, but actually is a very limited subset when it is evaluated as a flake.

  1. You can’t use dynamic values in the inputs or description (and probably nixConfig as well)
  2. The top-level expression has to be a set, you can’t wrap it in a let/in
  3. You can’t even eta reduce the outputs function with something imported.

mh, thanks for that information

still I don’t know, how it could work

inputs rec {
    nixosVersion="23.05";
    nixpkgs.url = "nixpkgs/nixos-${nixosVersion}";
  };

fails, as well

I said that, and I mean it.

PS: The thread title doesn’t really match the question, do you mind updating it?
