George Hotz checking out Nix for the first time :-)

I strongly disagree with this as there’s a lot of evidence to suggest otherwise. I haven’t watched the video nor do I know what Geohot does or is, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Being a great hacker doesn’t necessarily equate to being able to use NixOS or not. NixOS is one of few unique GNU/Linux distributions out there, so it’s expected to have some level of complexity when it comes to learning it. However, making that comparison is very misleading. I’m an undergraduate and it took me about a month to satisfactorily switch all of my workflow from Manjaro over to NixOS. And I haven’t even used Linux for more than 2 years. I still consider myself a newbie in a ton of aspects.

Being a legendary hacker is no prerequisite to navigating NixOS. And this is also mentioned above in the thread that people simply learn differently; for some, the traditional style docs are good enough and some need a different way of learning.

This is all hilariously true. And sad.

would be fun to watch Hotz read the callPackage docs out loud. :joy: I hope octomancer is still a user  I wonder if Desi Arnaz had been inclined in that certain way of thinking with computer folks and if he would even allow the consideration of nix into his mind−I wonder if he’d be a fan and happy user? Probably. I hope.

George says:

“My central thesis about the world is: There’s things that centralize power, and they’re bad. And there’s things that decentralize power and they’re good.”

I think if he took a deeper look at Nix, he’d like it based on this principle. But he’s far too busy to learn something like Nix.

nixos-shell honestly
