That is a very good argument for leaving GitHub and replacing it with something open. By sticking to GitHub, the barrier of entry into the project is unnecessarily high, because every contributor needs a GitHub account. This implies:
- being willing to accept the quite hostile terms of use
- being older than 16 years
- being a citizen of the right country, one that is not currently under any embargo by the US Department of Commerce
Limiting the world view to those who are already inside a walled garden does not qualify of being inclusive and accessible.
FWIW, NixOS being fully dependent on a closed, somewhat hostile Microsoft platform is the only thing effectively stopping me from using NixOS, which would have many benefits in a lot of contexts for me.
