I was in your shoes… I have been using EOS and Arch for many years and I never imagined moving away from it (I am Arch tester and maintain AUR packages). But I heard about NixOS some weeks ago and really got interested in it…
Just recently I changed to it… just did it… I don’t miss Arch… it took me some reading and some time to set it up properly… and I kinda felt like a Noob again, which is weird, if you used Arch… but I love it… and I got most of the basics done… even made a flake and got my config set… Over the next weeks, I will learn and make optimizations to my config, get home manager, more flakes, etc.
Now, to be honest, I am have used Arch for many years (pure Arch) and I work as web and software dev… so it might be easier for me to get started… but if you are really interested in it, just try it… You will be fine, if you are patient and willing to learn. If you want to do it the basic way, you could even install packages like in Arch, using nixos-env, even though you’d forfeit the benefits and main purpose of NixOS.
Hope, this helps you. Feel free to message me if you have questions or need help.
