How to run Xsane with a hp printer/scanner whether I can’t add ‘hpaio’ within the ~/.nix-profile/etc/sane.dll.conf list ? It’s a read-only file system.

I think sane config is managed by nixos modules.

Earlier, I faced a such issue with Pinentry, then solved it using the declarative package management.
