Installing Nix on MacOS Catalina with encrypted boot volume

Hi. I’m new to Nix and I’m trying to install it on a MacBook Pro with MacOS Catalina using the recommended --darwin-use-unencrypted-nix-store-volume option. However, I see the following error…

Creating mountpoint for /nix...
Creating a Nix Store volume...
error: refusing to create Nix store volume because the boot volume is
FileVault encrypted, but encryption-at-rest is not available.
Manually create a volume for the store and re-run this script.
       See https://nixos.org/nix/manual/#sect-macos-installation

It’s not obvious to me how to do this. Can anyone tell me what commands to execute to manually create a volume for the store?
