Is there a "welcome" section for new member introductions?

Hi

I just joined and after a bit of searching was unable to find a section for new member introductions. Could somebody please help point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Introductions aren’t necessary, but if you need help getting started as a user or as a contributor we can point you to the right docs or answer questions!

Thanks for your reply, @rhendric !

I hope to be ready to contribute soon, but in the meantime here are a few things I’m trying to accomplish:

  1. After six months of learning and using Nix on my own (I don’t know anybody in my physical community that uses Nix) I want to connect with other Nix users and enthusiasts online, as well as folks who might be interested in mentoring Nix newbies.

  2. Another very short-term goal is to combine and share my dev-vm, nix-darwin, and bare-metal server configs to GitHub; they’re not quite roast-my-config-ready à la Linux Unplugged, but I hope to get them there in the next few weeks.

  3. In the next two months my big Nix goal is to deploy proof-of-concept NixOS cloud infra for an AI-focused dev shop (on Hetzner Cloud). I purchased NixOS in Production hoping that would eventually get me to where I need to go, but it’s only about 40% complete and I need to make sure I have a good handle on my production infra before the beginning of 2026. It seems unlikely that book will be complete anytime soon since it hasn’t been updated since September 2024.

Fortunately ( :grimacing:?), I’m currently between jobs and can dedicate a couple of hours a day to building this out from now through the rest of the holiday season, so I would really appreciate exposure to any resources or materials that could help me get the rest of the way there.

Thank you!

For anyone else who’s interested, I just noticed there are a couple of mentoring channels on the NixOS Discord:

I just hopped on to check it out and they were all super nice!
