I recently discovered that nix upgrade-nix doesn’t work when one is using Nix profiles.
My solution for the moment is to install a profile for Nix itself with a lower priority than the “main” version so that it takes precedent.
Will this cause problems if the newer version does something that the “main” version doesn’t understand.
Is the “main” still involved somewhere if so then does it even make sense to install Nix as a profile?

So far I found the only other way to upgrade Nix is to remove it and reinstall but that feels incredibly dumb.
The manual mentions a method with nix-env but this uses channels but I don’t have any on my system.
