# Modular Services meeting #10 2026-10-16

Attendees: @Kiara, @Eveeifyeve, @lassulus, @roberth, @aanderse

- Half of us is recovering from the NixCon flu, general sickness, and people have been busy with work, NixOS release, etc, so not much implementation progress
- @Kiara:

- @Kiara: been looking into contracts, tangentially related, what shall we discuss?

## Discussion

- @eveeifyeve: did @aanderse switch to finix v5 yet?
- @aanderse: yes, new features coming into use. I feel like it’s close to systemd level functionality. It contributes less to modular services as a reference point _outside_ systemd. Systemd implements great ideas.
  - state directory, logs directory, etc

- @Kiara: mentioned [GitHub - applicative-systems/declarative-runtime: Service runtime configuration through Terraform Providers · GitHub](https://github.com/applicative-systems/declarative-runtime) in previous meeting. Using it in Fediversity now.
  - @aanderse: cool project. We shouldn’t reinvent the wheel.
  - @Kiara: tracks where we are _and_ where we need to be.
  - @eveeifyeve: not having guaranteed rollbacks is scary.
  - @Kiara: you kind of have to trust it and have backups.
  - @roberth: we’ll be stuck with Terraform for a while
  - @aanderse: anything is possible

- @eveeifyeve: rebase [nixos/phpfpm: set systemd Type to notify-reload when possible by aanderse · Pull Request #434262 · NixOS/nixpkgs · GitHub](https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/434262) and make use of `reloadCommand` and `reloadSignal`.  
- @eveeifyeve: User Creation/Spec (semi done)  
- everyone: look into package modules options and compare
