Hello all and finally i am here i got courage and installed NixOS and been enjoying it so far and slowly learning how stuff moves and so much reading done that my eyes hurts. Now for the fun part…
i have been trying to set Secure boot all day multiple try and errors no correct results and i seem to be missed something or not not sure anymore since i get same issues each time even i follow straight the secure boot nix wiki guide and links. i Have another try later, but if there is something preventing it just happening asking here.
After that the fun goes to optimus system setup havent read too much that part yet, but should be pretty easy setup, but just want to get sec boot first and then signing mok keys to nvidia and setup prime offloads etc. so all tips are welcome.
also question should i get straight to home manager setup i guess that is separate home like other systems have.
also more tips on noob starting nixOS what to go and do since now i am committed to this
oh btw how to get neochat patched version seems it has 3 CVE so wont allow to install
I am pretty sure it would be helpful to search if some questions were already answered, and if not, create new topics with clear titles and a single question.
Otherwise things get messy quite quickly
For secureboot I heard lanzaboote is recommended
Home manager manages all the config files in your home, figure out the system first
If you want a “patched” version that has CVEs, maybe you dont want that version. You could try and apply the patches yourself, or just use normal NeoChat. There is an option to allow insecure packages, but you absolutely shouldnt use that for internet applications
Also, sadly, no, modern desktop environments use wayland and none of the options for this work on wayland. You might be lucky and it works out of the box, depending on which GPU your firmware happens to choose (save for having to also add the nvidia-offload script), but the hardware.nvidia.prime options are practically nonfunctional these days (the wiki is outdated and wrong about this). Feel free to ask about it in a separate thread, I have a working setup, but it requires knowing your DE and more.
Optimus is for very old GPUs/drivers, too, so if you actually want optimus (rather than prime) you’ll struggle. Using old nvidia GPUs is difficult, let alone while trying to make optimus work.
Thank you I will take on that offer and hardware not so old tiger lake igpu and rtx 3050ti and I have been using before open Nvidia drivers on Wayland with some tweaking and learning, but this is totally new world for me now
