Organizing Open Source Weekends

Something that I have wanted to do for a long time was to participate in an “Open Source Weekend” event where anyone passionate about Open Source could spend a weekend contributing to a project of their choice (or multiple!).

So what I am looking for is some advice or suggestions. I live in Boise, Idaho and we have a relatively active development group here (Boise Software Development Group) and we are trying to get a CNCF chapter moving. I was thinking we could have both groups sponsor/host the event in Boise.

Therefore my questions are..

  1. Do you/have you attended something similar? What was your experience?
  2. Was there any funding to pay for food/drinks during the event?
  3. How many days was it?

Generally, any advice would be great. I would love an excuse to just focus on contributing or helping out projects with their backlog or issues. Sounds like a great time and could be a fantastic networking event too!

Awesome thank you! I’m gathering as much info as I can for planning this out. It won’t be Nix focused, but it will be on my agenda to tackle.
