Plasma now supports having systemd manage the session in a manner similar to how things are working with GNOME. I suggest anyone interested in KDE/Plasma to try out nixos/plasma5: make it run using systemd and wayland by peterhoeg · Pull Request #117102 · NixOS/nixpkgs · GitHub - as it only touches nixos modules, it will work without anything needing to be recompiled.

Only yesterday, I was giving Plasma + systemd a try and ran into the issue you fixed.
It seems to work great so far - will let you know in case I run into any trouble caused by it.
I forgot to mention - you get a wayland, and you get a wayland and you get a wayland. Everybody gets a wayland!
Sure, I know that it technically doesn’t make sense, but launching a KDE wayland session works wonderfully apart from some minor glitches. I’m updating the PR with details.
