Slack Screen Sharing situation

Hi guys

The Slack screen sharing situation is currently extremely bad. When I just want to share my entire screen, i have to click through 4 dialogs (sometimes even 6, because the dialog just pops up again even if the screen sharing already started). Here’s a GIF of the flow:

It was always sub-optimal (at least 2 dialogs) but in the last month it got up to four.

Does anyone know if there is a fix in sight for this?

I have this since forever and unrelated to the software I want to share in.

This seems also be unrelated to the operating system.

Sharing a screen became needlessly complicated in the last couple of years, all for the sake of privacy…

And with unrelated to the OS, I mean:

  • Ubuntu 24.05 derivative
  • NixOS unstable
  • MacOS 26.1
  • Windows

You have this nasty dialogs everywhere.

No, I have nothing against dialogs asking for permission. My problem is that i get the same dialogs twice or even three times in a row, and i’m asked for selecting the window, even if i selected the whole screen.

I only have this problem with slack in electron.

With chrome or Firefox this is pretty good actually.

There’s not much you can do but wait until slack update their browser then.

Personally, I would recommend using the web version instead, that’s always going to be more secure and less buggy.

The person who invented shipping entire browsers as standalone applications just so that you can ship a JS file is on my hitlist for when I invent a time machine. Seriously, this is why PWAs existed, shame that has been effectively replaced with repackaged, outdated chromes.
