Steering Committee Update #1

Hello everyone,

We would like to share several key developments from the past two weeks since the newly elected members joined the Steering Committee.

Onboarding of new members

All newly elected Steering Committee members have now been fully onboarded and are actively participating in discussions and decision-making.

Formalize Asynchronous Voting

The SC has agreed on a formal process for asynchronous decision-making, documented in our governance repository: async voting process.

As part of this process, all vote outcomes will be published in a public decision log to improve transparency and give the community insight into both agreements and points of friction: decisions log.

Formalizing rules for the normal operation of the Steering Committee is in our opinion a good direction for us and for future SCs to operate efficiently.

New Public Steering Committee Repository

Our first vote using the new process approved the creation of a public Git repository to host all public-facing SC material, including meeting minutes, decision logs, and governance documents and processes.

You can see the vote here: Vote #1 – Opening the NixOS/steering-committee repository

The repository is now available for the community to access.

Constitutional Update

The SC also approved a constitutional change regarding no-confidence votes. Vacant seats will now count toward the total used when determining whether a no-confidence vote triggers re-election. This change was initially proposed by @wolfgangwalther.

You can read the vote here: Vote #2 – Constitutional change on no-confidence votes with vacant seats

We will share more updates in the future.
