Actually the minimal ISO has been reproducible in practice for a while (NixOS Reproducible Builds: minimal installation ISO successfully independently rebuilt). We’ve been on top of regressions for the minimal iso, and reduced the remaining issues for the graphical iso to a few remaining gnarly issues - Reproducible Builds · GitHub. Your point stands, though: even with all our guardrails there’s real effort involved.
