2025-02-13 Nix@NGI Team Update

The Nix@NGI Team continues working towards the goals we set earlier. While we officially formed in January, we welcomed @imincik in early February. He helps manage our project workflow, offloading some responsibilities from @fricklerhandwerk, and is also part of the Geospatial Team—a familiar face to some of you.

What we’re currently working on

  • @imincik helped the team refine key results and breaking down user stories: check the pinned issues for our top priorities and our GitHub Project for current work in progress
  • @eljamm is building automation for contributor workflows and progress tracking
  • @erictapen started a survey of more than 600 NGI project authors, asking for details about their software and how we can assist them
  • @fricklerhandwerk and @eljamm keep refining what exactly it means for a project to be “packaged”

What’s next

  • We’ll evaluate the survey and start prioritising projects and deliverables, getting in touch with authors and volunteers interested in packaging.
  • We’re planning a migration of our internal information management system from Notion to Grist for better control over data and permissions, and to enable more automation. Grist is open source, offers self-hosting capabilities and enhanced data privacy. We hope this move will help the NixOS Foundation with other organisational tasks.

Get in touch

The Nix@NGI team is part of a coordinated effort to support selected free and open source software (FOSS) projects, by making them available as Nix packages or NixOS service modules.
It is funded by the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative through the NLNet Foundation and the NixOS Foundation.
