While the full monthly update will be published in the coming days, we just couldn’t wait to share how much progress has been made lately!
Thanks to a streak of smooth development and strong coordination, this week’s joint effort resulted in a massive batch of updates. We wrapped things up with a weekly summary call that was packed with demos from most of the team - what a call it was!
- @Prince213 packaged Ethersync (#612) and is close to completing two additional projects. Impressive work, especially considering it’s his first week with the Summer of Nix!
- @OPNA2608 finalized updates for Inventaire and Galène, including writing and linking NixOS tests, as appropriate (#1078 and #405556)
- @themadbit implemented a prototype for displaying usage instructions within demo shells (#1144), and successfully packaged xrsh (#1077). This improves the user experience when trying out CLI and TUI programs in the demo shell environment.
- @eljamm made significant progress on automatically testing examples and displaying missing or broken tests, tracked in #1139, improving the stability and usability of our demo environment.
Considering this was @Prince213’s first week and @themadbit only joined us in early June, we’re genuinely impressed by the momentum so far. We believe this collective effort will significantly benefit the broader Nix/NixOS community.
That’s a wrap for this week - let’s keep the pace up and roll up our sleeves for more packaging goodness!
The Nix@NGI team is part of a coordinated effort to support selected free and open source software (FOSS) projects, by making them available as Nix packages or NixOS service modules.
It is funded by the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative through the NLNet Foundation and the NixOS Foundation.
