I like this. Maybe we can add that as a “see also” at the end of the reproducible scripts tutorial?
I wouldn’t upstream it verbatim yet, because there’s a risk of introducing noise in beginner tutorials - but it could end up as a recipe. Although I agree the fallback is a way to allow anyone to deal with their dependency nightmares themselves, that’s not a tone I would want in official documentation.
