Announcing NixOS Hispano: A space for the Spanish-speaking community

Hi everyone,

We are launching NixOS Hispano, a new space dedicated to the Spanish-speaking NixOS community. We currently have a starting group of 10 members on LinkedIn and 23 on Telegram, along with our own blog, and we want to bridge the gap with the official ecosystem.

Our main goal here is to serve as a community hub and “Planet” for news, discussions, and updates in Spanish. Anyone who wants to participate, drop a comment, or share their work is more than welcome.

To keep things practical and avoid fragmentation or the creation of isolated documentation silos, we have a clear rule: the official NixOS Wiki remains our single source of truth for reference and documentation.

Instead of rewriting technical guides here, this space will function like a Planet aggregator. Users are encouraged to:

  • Post short summaries of their articles and link back to their personal blogs.

  • Share their technical write-ups, experiments, and NixOS news in Spanish.

  • Discuss configurations and local community initiatives.

Whether you are a seasoned Nix expert or just starting with your firstconfiguration.nix, feel free to join the conversation and share your content.

Looking forward to seeing you around!

Is there a reason you don’t just ask moderators to create a language-specific Help for yourselves? All you need for that is to have enough prople who promise to regularly look here since moderation staff (and other community members) can’t help due to language barriers.

Great that you’re helping users to get together! Would be awesome to see meetups in new places in Events eventually.

Tip as a former documentation maintainer: It’s really good that you want to work with upstream rather than producing more stuff on the side. But I recommend to focus more on the source. The wiki sure is active thanks to volunteer efforts, but pretty much hit-and-miss on the load-bearing parts (essentially everything related to reference documentation).

And yes, in addition it’s probably good to have a Spanish Help section!

That actually sounds like a great plan. I’m willing to take care of the moderation and make sure questions get answered regularly, so the language barrier won’t be an issue for the global staff.

Who should I contact to request the creation of a native “Help (Spanish)” category here?

Great point about the wiki and focusing on upstream. I’ll make sure to push the community to contribute directly to the source reference documentation instead of just relying on the wiki.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to bring some local meetups to the Events section soon as well. Thanks for the tip!

I asked @hexa (thank you very much!) to open Help > Español (Spanish) for you.

Also, feel free to write a pinnable post for that section to replace the stub I left there. I’m not a spanish speaker myself.
