Betterbird not showing emails

Hello everyone!
I’m having an issue with betterbird where I can’t see my emails. The place where they should appear is just blank as shown below:

Thunderbird works fine.
After some digging, it seems to be a similar issue to the one described here:

Sadly a solution to this is not shown.
When opening betterbird from the terminal, I get:

Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[0][GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR (t=0.247128) [GFX1-]: vaapitest: ERROR

Here the general info about my system:

  • system: "x86_64-linux"
  • host os: Linux 6.1.82, NixOS, 23.11 (Tapir), 23.11.5541.56528ee42526
  • multi-user?: yes
  • sandbox: yes
  • version: nix-env (Nix) 2.18.1
  • nixpkgs: /nix/var/nix/profiles/per-user/root/channels/nixos
    My questions are:
  • Has anyone had this bug?
  • If yes, how was it solved, or has an issue already been opened?

This appears to be related to betterbird graphic bug · Issue #273848 · NixOS/nixpkgs · GitHub

You can try and enable vaapi by following Accelerated Video Playback - NixOS Wiki and see if that fixes it for you (you might have to follow this workaround if it didn’t)
