TL;DR: The Steering Committee is launching the new Hardware Team to own the nixos-hardware
repo, drive hardware enablement, and expand partnerships.
Introducing the Hardware Team
To strengthen hardware support across the NixOS ecosystem, the Steering Committee is standing up the NixOS Hardware Team. This community‑led effort brings device enablement under one roof, establishes clear governance, and welcomes broader contributions.
Why we’re launching this team
- Improve device support coordination: A core group will help reduce fragmentation and work towards faster hardware integration.
- Strengthen governance: Clear ownership and workflows ensure consistency and quality.
- Expand partnerships: A single point of contact for hardware collaborators makes coordination possible.
- Engage contributors: Structured onboarding and goals boost contributor involvement.
Team Responsibilities
- Own the nixos-hardware repo and define its governance model.
- Coordinate with hardware partners on provisioning, testing, and support tiers.
- Establish contribution workflows for device enablement, testing, and documentation.
