I think you might be conflating positing a logo for pride month with having a defined duration for leaving it up. I haven’t seen anywhere that said “we’ll leave this up for a month” but rather “this has gone up for pride month.”
Personally, I think we should leave it for longer, as a nod to our ongoing communal struggles for acceptance. Also shouldn’t you be “just concentrating on the technology”?
You are correct that the switch to the pride logo is a temporary logo change. However, no time limit was specified and I cannot find any record of our discussion in the minutes. I can tell you that between @idabzo, @avocadoom, and myself, we wanted to keep the logo up longer than a month. Everyone assumed it would be only be for a month because that is what everyone else does. But the three of us thought that sucks and decided to keep it up long and change it when it felt right. Could we have written that down in the minutes and communicated that? Sure. But we are a small team with big responsibilities so you will have to forgive us for leaving out this detail.
Even if we had committed to some timeline to change the logo back, it is squarely within our authority to change our minds. If people are curious, they are free to ask as was done in this thread, and we have given an answer to that question.
The Steering Committee supports the Marketing Team to administer the logo. As with many other organizations adopting logo changes in June, the change in logo was intended as a show of support for LGBTQ+ people during Pride Month. The marketing team opted to leave up the pride logo longer, and they intended to return to the official logo.
