When I want to edit a post, I’m getting asked " Are you sure you want to abandon your post?". What is this supposed to mean? I don’t want that, I guess, I want to edit my post, not delete it.
It just means abandon your edits. I suspect this is just some unpolished aspect of Discourse. You could post about it on https://meta.discourse.org to see what they say.

Usually it means you’ve started replying to some other thread, but didn’t finish. These are changes are about to “abandon”.
