This is a great start! Does “any NixOS images” include the RPi images and KVM/VHD guest images that are built too? Are you able to estimate the savings from dropping these also?
I had some ideas back in 2013 for tackling the GC problem, and would be very happy to contribute some analysis once your dataset contains the References data necessary to calculate reachability.
