is NixOs good for a normal Desktop pc?
is NixOs a rolling system?
I’m using it on all my desktops this project basically exists to facilitate that: GitHub - nix-community/home-manager: Manage a user environment using Nix [maintainer=@rycee]
If you often install applications without a package manager it’ll take some adjustment, and likely a fair bit of learning, but otherwise it’ll run almost exactly like any other distro.
Except that everything is nicely reproducible and replicatable across computers, and that your configuration will be updated too, instead of just your packages.
The “unstable” channel is. NixOS maintains both a rolling and a fixed-release version.
Thank you for the answer
as a new user, it’s worth mentioning . unlike other linux systems it’s possible to mix stable (a release) and unstable (master branch / rolling release) without much/any fuss or breakage.
Yep , sounds crazy…but it’s works!
