How can I murder VLC?

I’m trying to kill vlc, but it won’t die

$ pkill vlc
$ pgrep vlc

I’ve also done it with sudo, but still unable to assassinate.

Did you try pkill -9?

I’m used to using killall -9, but that command stopped working some time ago;)
