On other distros, you simply edit “/usr/share/thumbnailers/ffmpegthumbnailer.thumbnailer” and add “video/vnd.avi” to the end of the file.
Now this method obviously won’t work on Nix. Do you have any ideas how to make avi thumbnails appear?
EDIT: SOLVED by itself somehow. I was reorganizing my configuration.nix so that thunar will call its extension plugins as described here, rather than installing them as separate packages, and now avi thumbnails do display.
