How to patch correctly in my pull request?

Hello I recently made a pull request indicator-sound-switcher: init at 2.3.6 by Alexnortung · Pull Request #147413 · NixOS/nixpkgs · GitHub to nixpkgs
I got some feedback and SuperSandro2000 told me that there probaly was another way of patching libpulse compared to what I did, can anyone help me understand how?
