Hp uld (unified linux driver) package request

hi, i’m looking for a package of the hp uld printer drivers. can i somehow request them being packaged or is such a request frowned upon in nix(os)? has anynone else set up such a printer and can share his solution with me? i’m quite certain i am not the only one using a printer needing these drivers (on amazon some of them are quite popular).

i took the relevant ppd from the archive and added it to services.printing.drivers as described in the wiki, however, after telling the printer to use them, nothing happens when i want to print something.

i had hoped SPL printers would just work with the splix package…

(the printer works via ipp but this is a hassle and i would much prefer to just plug it in via usb)

Generally packaging requests are ok. Opening a issue on github may give it some more visibility.

update: i just had time to get my printer setup working and it turns out there is a simple way to print via usb-cable without having to use hp-uld drivers: set services.ipp-usb.enable=true; in nixos config. obviously this only works because my printer (hp color laser mfp 179fnw) supports driverless printing…
