I think I spotted one at NixCon, but I didn’t have a chance to bother the person to ask about it…
Is anyone rocking NixOS on the new AI HX 395 powered Zbook G1a? I don’t reall expect that there would be major hardware problems, but I am curious to hear anecdotal data, especially about what sort of battery life you’re getting. (I’m basically only ever running two copies of Firefox and a terminal to a remote machine.)
It was probably me or my coworker - we have 3 of them on my team. I’m honestly a bit bombed out now, but I can try to get you some answers to concrete questions (or maybe bother the others on Monday when we’re back to work).
I can’t say much about battery life, because I leave way too much running, haven’t configured power profiles, and my hundreds of firefox tabs are making mine never idle
(we all have the exact same HX 395/128GB mem/4TB disk/OLED-screen combination)
Hey @adamt, any chance I could ping you on this again? Sorry it’s the weekend. I happen to be in the US right now so it would be convenient to order/pick this up now. I’m normally not one to fret about “Linux on laptops” but given the price-point I’m curious to hear anything.
This doesn’t seem… too bad… I’m sort of used to wifi schenanigans anyway.
I don’t really notice much problems with wifi (running 6.17.0-rc6), but I haven’t done any performance testing. I think the driver/card did cause a few severe crashes for me during NixCon (specifically something the hotel wifi was doing at night caused complete lock-ups), but nothing I’ve noticed since. My coworker at nixcon experienced something similar at the hotel with their wifi. YMMV.
For the camera my coworker did this: GitHub - srhb/isp4-nixos
And it’s now working fine (beta software being beta software).
I think my main issue is related to power delivery from my monitor. There’s something wonky in that department, but it’s workable. Hopefully a firmware patch will fix it. But at least 1 of the other 2 laptops in my team is behaving better than mine, so, dunno what to say.
Any other questions?

Nope, this is exactly what I was looking for. Those are well within expectations for “daily driving relatively new platform/laptop with Linux”'. Now for the harder, “can I expense this” conversation .
