MNT Pocket, Reform & Reform Next - should i get them and do they work?

hi every1!!! :smiley_cat:

never really had a proper laptop myself (except a steam deck ), so i was thinking, like, really hard, (never really thogth before) - what is a good laptop? does anyone know? firs thought: system76. they make the most powerful ARM computers in the world right now (e.g. ampere astra - expensive! :face_with_spiral_eyes:), as well as laptops! always a nice start, i think. just wish they werent so obsessed with novidia… for fux sake. but they’re not that modular… sure, they have coreboot, but have you seen their laptops, mate? does anyone own a system76 laptop here, please stand up, haha. so, anyway, yeah, i love me some modular stuff. like a commodore amiga! you know what i mean? who makes amiga bits and bobs? well, a helluva lotta people, actually, such as gotek, amigastore, retropassion, amigakit, and others, the list goes on and on (just look em up! im too lazy!), and which is out of topic (sorry, adhd), BUT ALSO! MNT aka mntre! looked them up, and how theyre doing: incredible! apparently they make laptops! mind has been boggled, utterly speechless, mad respect for that. so, MNT Reform Next, which is coming out somewhere around THIS autumn, is what im gonna get, my final decision (even if i get 0 opinions on this… ill go through it all and post a minimal config!). i mean, just look at it! is that a nice choice, guys, does anyone know? cos ive looked around a bit on this forum and couldnt find a single mention, any life signal of anybody using an MNT. really wanna hear from folks whos hacked the shit out of their MNT Pocket’s! saw this then, right, but its like a bunch of overlays all piled up… is that all necessary to get uboot working, guys? via an SD, really? then there’s this discussion, but its also a little bit dated. im really interested in stuff like, slotting in a third party cpu module (or an SBC, or a ā€œcomputer-on-a-moduleā€, a dev board, etc.), yknow, like a lattepanda mu (FOR EXAMPLE), which is also 200pin sodimm, but x86-64, is that gonna work out of the box or not? cos surely this is old news, haha, right? probably a silly question, right, but i just gotta ask, im gonna stick to ARM anywayzz (friendly reminder that x86-64 is emulating itself :joy::joy:). anyway, in short, HOW IS IT? does it work well with nixOS? i mean, of course, it should work, but is it like ready-ready, or like ā€œwrite ya own module ya @#$%!ā€? cos i really dont wanna distrohop again, ya know! thanks in advance for any tips & advice, much love <3

MODULARITY!!!11! (and declarativeness, of course)

p.s. oh, before i forget, no, thanks, i am not interested in a ā€œmodular laptopā€ by ā€œframeworkā€, that is out of the question. =)

p.p.s. THINKPADS! love them. who doenst? but 0 information about their ARM variants… huh? also… soldered on RAM is not amusing…

p.p.p.s. please just say anything even fjlkajsdflkjasd i just want your opinion on this =(
