Nix deployments

Since I’ve started using NixOS, the number of hosts I have that use Nix in some fashion has risen to 3, so I’d like to up my maintenance game.
For this I was looking at NixOps. The main issue is that essentially it’s deprecated and “probably not suited for new projects”, and its would-be successor NixOps4 doesn’t look like it can take over quite yet.

So what’s a NixOS user to do? What’s the recommended path for now?
