First BeNix Meetup
When
I am happy to announce that the first Belgium Nix (BeNix, previously BruNix) meetup series will take place on Friday, 7 November 2025, in Nivelles, Belgium! ![]()
What
Nix is a software system created about 20 years ago by Eelco Dolstra, a Dutch
researcher who developed it as part of his PhD in 2003.
Since then, Nix has been adopted worldwide and, thanks to the innovations it introduced, it has become an increasingly important part of the open-source ecosystem.
What he designed is truly unique. Nix is used by large-scale infrastructures but also by individuals who want to explore the fascinating world of free software and take their first steps (or both feet!) into Linux
.
This duality, power and accessibility, is built right into its core design.
This meetup will be a small and friendly gathering: expect 2 or 3 short presentations, pizza, drinks, and great discussions about our favourite project and the topic of reproducibility!
Curious beginners and seasoned users are welcome. Bring your
if you want to try Nix on-site or get help with a concrete setup.
Join us to learn, share, and leave with practical ideas and tools you can use right away!
Where
We are also delighted to announce that the venue is kindly offered by Le Phare, a local evangelical community space right in the centre of Nivelles.
The place is brand new (less than two weeks old!), beautifully designed, and fully equipped, with a large TV for projections and proper heating to make it a cosy spot for a great evening in good company.
A huge thank-you to the Le Phare community for welcoming us there! ![]()
