Nix Software Engineering at Obsidian Systems

Hi everyone. I am happy to say Nix work at Obsidian is going well, and it’s time to hire.

I’m happy to say we have a good stable of projects going, projects very much aligned with the broad vision I laid out in in my SC candidacy last year for example. I’m very excited we have found clients and customers who share this vision, who I think are excellent partners take Nix ecosystem where I think it needs to go. I hope many you will be excited to work on these projects, too.

What You’ll Do

Our portfolio of Nix projects is growing. Sometimes this means working on things using Nix, such as fully downstream Nix code, or work in Nixpkgs or NixOS. Sometimes this means working on Nix itself, or related software like Hydra. You should be comfortable working at both layers.

Our clients and customers trust that was have some of the deepest knowledge of the Nix ecosystem, and clearest visions for what needs to happen next for it to achieve its potential as a foundational tool for all software development. You will help influence this vision and bring it into reality.

Who You Are

You should know the Nix ecosystem very well. You should have strong professional software development experience, and experience with good typed languages. (E.g. you should know at least one of Rust or Haskell. If you also know C++ that is great, but if you know those two we will not worry and assume you can learn C++ on the fly.) You should also have good practical ops experience. For example, you should have experience running NixOS on your own machines (or at work).

I’d love to submit my portfolio for review if you are still hiring.

On the note of still accepting applications. I sent in one on Nov 24 and haven’t heard back. Should I consider my application rejected?
