we are very pleased to announce the public availability of NixOS 25.05 (the Linux distribution) and Nixpkgs 25.05 (the package set), under the codename “Warbler”.
We saw quite a significant increase of contributors between 24.11 (2669) and 25.05 (2857).
We’re glad to see more contributors with each version which is released and we’d like to thank everyone for participating!
The old release 24.11 “Vicuña” is now officially deprecated and will reach its end-of-life and stop receiving security updates after 2025-06-30.
We will do a release retrospective in about a week. Please join, when you have any suggestions or other types of feedback. The exact time will be planned in the release management matrix room. The URL will be also announced there.

We are also happy to announce the compatible 25.05 release of the NixOS mailserver project. Development is picking up steam again. Check our release notes for changes in this release cycle.
Thanks to everyone who made this happen! Two commands and two edits to my config was all that was needed. Really enjoying NixOS as a Desktop environment.
