Has anyone successfully been able to use Nixos running on Gnome-boxes? If so how do you transfer files between it and the host? I am trying Nixos out on a vm before installing on bare hardware as I have had difficulties with Nixos and its sound and NVIDIA driver support with prior versions. I’ve been unable to locate the necessary spice.webdavd service/package which is normally required for file sharing between host and guest on Gnome-Boxes.
I couldn’t install NixOS on Gnome Boxes directly, but using virt-manager
with QEMU/KVM user session, the VM appears in Gnome Boxes.
More detailed steps:
- install virt-manager
- in virt-manager, click
File > Add connection
and selectQEMU/KVM user session
- create a new VM and chose “customize configuration before install”
- in the customization window, select
Firmware : UEFI secboot
and chose SATA CDROM as first boot option - click
Begin installation
You should see the VM in Gnome boxes at this point.
(Note: I’m not sure all the steps are required, but that’s how I did it)
