NixOS has only been installed on this cheap (£30) Dell laptop (2018) for a week, and I am blown away with how well it’s running KDE Plasma on a Celeron processor with 4Gb RAM and a HDD. I’d like to use this laptop to play YT vids over an HDMI cable to a Sony TV, and that would free up a much more capable HP laptop for more NixOS testing. NixOS is the only distro that I’ve tried that recognised the HDMI port, and whilst I can play video over it, so far there’s been no audio. Headphones and laptop speakers are working fine. Unfortunately the RCA inputs of the TV are disabled for HDMI input, so no easy fix that way. There are a few threads similar to this, and I’ve looked at those, but my problem stops me following them to a potential fix.
As can be seen above, I appear to have pipewire services running, but the commands that I need to follow the relevant threads (such as ‘aplay’) are not available to me. I have searched for an ‘aplay’ file on the system, (a possible pathing issue) but haven’t found one.
The pipewire declaration in my configuration.nix created by the installer appears to be exactly as it should be. Although new to Linux, I have programmed on UNIX (mainly AIX) for many years, but only have limited sysadmin experience. This ought by rights to be something really simple, but I can’t for the life of me see what it is! Any help will be much appreciated.
