Nvidia PRIME external monitor without reboot

Hello,

I got a new laptop for the first time in about 6 years, a System76 Gazelle. I was surprised to find how much of a pain the video is now, with the hybrid video stuff. I followed the Nvidia wiki entry and was able to get sync mode working. I started with that because it seemed simplest. When I was at home and had the power plugged in and my monitor plugged in, everything seemed to work fine. But when I unplugged and went on the road, the laptop locked up after a few minutes.

I decided to go ahead and try the offload mode described. I got that working without any problems. Here’s the final configuration.

The one thing that I still find frustrating is the need to reboot whenever I want to start/stop using an external monitor. Are there any other options here? Or am I just stuck?
