[So, last year we posted this in the Announcement category, but my colleague doesn’t have access there, so we ended up with a stub posting over here. Let’s put some more info right here and avoid spamming multiple topics with it … ]

Last year we had such a wonderful time together, so we decided to do it again.

A full week of intense Nix hacking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing during SaltSprint – all skill levels welcome.

When: June 22 – 26, 2026 (Monday-Friday)
Where: Werkhalle, SaltLabs, Halle (Saale), Germany
Seats: space is limited to 30 participants
Apply by: May 17, 2026 (registration required; free of charge) Apply now!

We provide a nice working environment, fast internet, as well as breakfast, snacks, and coffee.

Travel, accommodation, and lunch as well as dinner costs are not covered.

See saltsprint.org for detailed travel tips and accommodation options.

See you in Halle!

This sprint format is - aside from being fun and productive - intended to show how a sprint can be run quite economically. We’re inviting more sponsors and will increase the range of services (food, social, merchandise) depending on the budget.

We’ll provide a budget review here in this thread after the event showing the options and decisions so more people might feel inspired to run an event like this.

Hello everyone,

it’s now been 10 days since the Saltsprint, we hope all the participants have got home safely. If you’re interested in the results, take a look at SaltSprint 2026 - HedgeDoc

As promised, we’re publishing the financing information here. Just like last year, Saltsprint took place during what has so far been the hottest week of the year. You’ll see the impact on the budget.

Budget

Income: 3000.00 EUR
Costs: 2156.52 EUR
Remaining budget: 843.48 EUR

Details

Income – Commitments from the community and sponsors

  1. 1000 EUR NixOS Foundation
  2. 1000 EUR Secunet
  3. 1000 EUR flyingcircus.io

Costs – Participants ~15 per day

  1. 1000 EUR location SaltLabs (Werkhalle, 5 days)
  2. 732.23 EUR beakfast, food, fruits and snacks
  3. 369.93 EUR cold and warm beverages
  4. 54.36 EUR icecream

As you can see, we focused to spent all the money on the participants wellbeeing. We decided not to produce t-shirts or other keepsakes. Instead, as planned, returning the remaining budget to the foundation to support other projects. Since the costs exceed 2000 EUR only slightly, we have decided not to claim the 1000 EUR pledged by the NixOS Foundation. Flying Circus are covering the additional costs.

We hope the participants had everything they needed. The ice cube machine was running most of the time due to the weather conditions. Suggestions for improvement are welcome, please don’t hesitate to contact us. It was a great pleasure for us to have you all here in Halle (Saale).
