It might be worth considering a minor change the website’s search page, where Options is placed before Packages in the top menu, and the site automatically defaults to Options search instead of Packages search.
The intent is to make it clearer to new NixOS users that they should prefer installing packages using NixOS modules whenever possible. This isn’t always obvious to new users, myself included.
Currently it’s easy for new users to not realize this, and to try to install packages by adding them to environment.systemPackages
instead, running into easily avoidable problems. One recent example demonstrating the issue.
Thoughts? (If there’s a reason for the current layout that supercedes this concern, I’d be interested to hear it)
