Search package by meta-information

Is it possible to search packages not only by name, but by their meta-information, especially by their description, long description, maintainer?

Or would I have to grep through the package-list?

nix search will search attribute path, name, and description.

To search by maintainer, someone in an other thread mentioned https://repology.org.
This is a quite nice page, where it’s possible to search packages of several distributions, by name/maintainer and check if the package is up-to-date.

So:

  • search by name, description, attribute path: nix search
  • search by maintainer: https://repology.org
