Trying to get a Nix package updated... am I doing this right?

The libinput-gestures package maintainer for Nix said she is no longer using a touchpad and isn’t maintaining this package, AFAICT. I’m trying to get a pull request to update to the latest version (2.77), but I’m new to Nix and not sure if this is all correct (patching, versioning, sha256, etc.).

Any advice? The new libinput-gestures has a cool long press feature that I helped develop, but the maintainer deleted the branch I was using and merged the updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry no concrete advice yet - I have just started out with my first pull request for a different package. I need to read more on git and some naming conventions - I’ve been pointed here so it may help you too:
