I have a problem with my locales on NixOS. I’m on NixOS version 22.11pre427450.52b2ac8ae18 (Raccoon).
Trying to set locales I discovered that nixos only allows en_US.UTF-8/UTF-8, but not en_US.UTF-8. When trying to set the latter, the configuration fails. See output at the bottom of this post.
However, when I choose en_US-UTF-8/UTF-8 from the list, I get the following warnings:

Here nixos-rebuild switch does not fail. But afterwards quite some programs/commands through that warning and I am unsure about other complications.
This is related to Nix broken by having LANG and LC_* set · Issue #599 · NixOS/nix · GitHub and Nix does not provide en_US.UTF-8 locale · Issue #4829 · NixOS/nix · GitHub.
I read both of them thoroughly and tried everything suggested there. I was not able to fix it.
LOCALE_ARCHIVE is set to “/run/current-system/sw/lib/locale/locale-archive”.
A minimal example of the failing configuration is the default configuration from nixos-generate-config. I had this error on first install already.
I saw this forum post Nix bash - locale settings # perl: warning: Setting locale failed, but the replies did not help me solve my problem.
