WiFi on this distro is slow!

So for some context, when I was a peasant Windows 11 user, I got upwards of 200 mbps on my router without breaking a sweat, now, I’m struggling to go above 10 mbps while all the other devices get blazing fast speeds on the same router. I tried all the OS level fixes, no luck. Tried switching to a different router, dropped my speed even lower (complementing the fact that this router sucks anyways) and the only remotely okay fix was USB tethering, but I’m not gonna use my 7 year old tablet to get internet, even though my crappy tablet got ~100 mbps with its probably very old drivers. So for now I have to resort to a new distro… and MAYBE you guys can help with this, maybe by suggesting a fix, by contacting the devs, anything! I really love this OS and think it’s perfect, just not in the internet aspect for now, which is like 50% of my digital life. For additional info, I did some research and maybe the problem is NixOS is playing it safe and capping my speed voluntarily, but I’m not THAT deep a nerd to understand how that happens even though I’m VERY tech-savvy.

Hey,

Not having a direct answer, but likely helpful for people that know how to help.

Instead of writing that you tried ”all os level fixes" , it’s maybe a better way in writing what you actually tried. Otherwise people can just blindly guess and can not really suggest something without thinking that you possibly already tried it

Main point for me to check was always:

  1. Is the correct driver loaded oris there need to enforce a specific one
  2. Is the firmware available and loaded if any needed

But as you said you tried everything on OS Level, you like already have.

Also it might be very helpful to actually name the WiFi device you got or at least the chip.

Otherwise it’s just paraphrasing what could be checked without any clear direction
